Dear Catherine,
thank you for visiting our showroom. I hope my answers will help you in your research.
The advantages of using pattern books are that they are compact and can display a large amount of fabric swatches. This is mainly an advantage for our representatives or interior designers when they visit their clients. The disadvantages are that some fabrics have large pattern repeat that you can't see in the pattern books and this might be tricky when you are trying to present these. There is always a future for pattern books, but perhaps in the future they might be larger or include more images of fabrics in a room setting or there will be a new innovation that you students are about to come up with. As you may have noticed when you were in our showroom or other showrooms we also display show lengths as many of our fabric designs require it due to their large pattern repeat or we display pieces of furniture covered in our fabrics, which again makes it easier for our customers, however it is crucial to have pattern books as you have to see and feel the fabric no picture images can do that for you.
Good luck with your studies.

To Zuzana,
Another student, Georgina, and myself, visited the showroom at Chelsea Harbour on 8th November inquiring as to whether you could answer some questions for our research into the future of pattern books, to which we were given your card to forward on the questions to yourself.
We are currently in our final year of university studying Fashion Communication and Promotion at Nottingham Trent University. For our first research module we are looking at the role of pattern/ fabric swatch books in the fashion and interior industries, and what the future may be for them.
I wondered if you had a few moments to spare to answer these five short questions. Any response would be greatly appreciated!
1. What are the advantages of using pattern books?
2. What are the disadvantages of using pattern books?
3. Do you feel there is a future for pattern books? If so, what changes might there be?
4. Do you feel pattern books are a crucial part of the consumer purchasing journey?
5. Do you feel pattern books fully show-off and display a collection appropriately?
